Field Day moves to a new location for its 2019 edition. The English festival is the first big event held at the Drumsheds in North London. We set out to discover this new site, and show you why it’s the best location in London.

From 2007 to 2017, the festival took place in East London’s Victoria Park. When All Points East took over this spot in 2018, Field Day first moved to South London before settling in Meridian Water this year.

Visitors arrive at the newly openend Meridian Water Station, and from there it’s only a short walk to the industrial site of Field Day 2019. This is what it looks like:

Main Stage

Upon entering the festival, we immediately reach the Main Stage area. Skepta and Jorja Smith headline this stage, with Jungle, Diplo, Pusha T and others also performing here. The crowd stands on a field of pebbles, which is a lucky invention because grass would certainly turn into mud with this weekend’s heavy rain. Behind the stage, Tottenham’s IKEA provides a blue background to Field Day’s wonderful performances. Ideal for some pre-festival furniture shopping.

Bulldog Gin Yard & Dr. Marten’s Boot Room

On the other side of Field Day’s entrance, we walk onto a field of grass that looks like it was added only a few days ago. It is surrounded by food trucks, many of which are local. From Senegalese and Caribbean to cheesy bites and pizzas, we find a fantastic variety, with many vegan and veggie options as well.

We also see two stages around this field. The Bulldog Gin Yard hosts many DJs in a small arena, including Erol Alkan, Todd Terje and Denis Sulta. Dr. Marten’s Boot Room is a tiny tent, where local artists like Marika Hackman, Crows and Flohio perform.

Printworks Stage

Behind the Main Stage, a set of stairs lead to the real highlight of Field Day 2019. Three giant warehouses provide the indoor section of the site. It’s absolutely fabulous. The large halls still have most of the attributes from when they were used as gasworks. The middle room houses the Printworks Stage, hosting DJs like Bonobo, George FitzGerald and The Black Madonna. There are speakers throughout the hall, all the way to the back, creating an amazing immersive sound experience.

CRACK Stage / Boiler Room

A smaller room in the warehouses hosts another stage. On Friday, this is the CRACK Stage, the home of Modeselektor, Deerhunter, Julia Holter and other indie artists. On Saturday, the world-famous Boiler Room takes over, with Octavian, JPEGMAFIA and more. The atmosphere is fantastic. In this room, surrounded by industrial installations, we feel the excitement of a proper warehouse party.
