Primavera Sound 2019’s schedule isn’t out yet. While we wait for the dreadful clashes, we can already start looking for the must-see acts. The Spanish festival takes place between May 30 and June 1.
The headliners don’t make a festival, and that is really true for this year’s Primavera Sound. No big name drags the lineup (Tame Impala being the biggest), but the undercard is incredible as usual. We have selected 5 acts you shouldn’t miss, clashes pending.
Pond is the closest you’ll ever be to Tame Impala, as both bands have members in common. Formed in 2008, their psychedelic rock can be even more dancey than Tame Impala’s, like on “Zond”. The Australian band can also be calmer, like on “Medicine Hat”, but always with their twist. You can catch both bands at Primavera Sound.
Apparat, aka Sasha Ring, is one third of the band Moderat. While the two other guys from Modeselektor take care of the beat and rythm, Apparat is in charge of the melody. You can clearly see it on his personal work: melodic, ambient sounds combined with his amazing, calming voice. Bonus: he released a new album recently, which was well received by fans and critics. Modeselektor is also playing at Primavera Sound, so maybe we’ll see a Moderat surprise show?
Multi-instrumentalist, David August doesn’t have to chose between electronic and classical music: he blends them within his own sound. His music is dancey, and at the same time super-melodic so easily appreciable outside a dancefloor. He started piano at 5 and has a diploma in sound engineering, so he is very technical as well.
Julien Baker is an American singer-songwriter from Memphis, Tennessee. She started with the band Forrister before going solo, and since then she released amazing songs, putting her soothing voice on the music map of the world. Turn On The Lights was a great album, which she followed with the supergroup Boygenius, collaborating with Lucy Dacus and Phoebe Bridgers. Lucy is also performing at Primavera Sound, so maybe a collaboration on stage?
“Fresh” is the adjective that describes the best Lizzo. Her music is happy, her music is dancey. Cuz I Love You, her third album, was released on April 19, so you will have new songs to dance and smile to. Lizzo raps and sings. She took the best out of her previous hip hop bands and incorporated it into her universe.
Primavera Sound 2019
Primavera Sound is considered to be one of the biggest festivals for the alternative scene. It was first held in 2001 and ever since the early stages succeeded in bringing together in its lineup representatives of many different genres like pop, dance, rock, R&B and also the latest independent music scene. The Portishead, Arcade Fire, LCD Soundsystem, Kendrick Lamar, Neil Young and Patti Smith are only a few names that have performed in previous years. In addition to the great lineup, Barcelona is also one of the most beautiful cities around the world, which needs to be explored.
