The first weekend of Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival 2018 has ended. The festival yet again managed to keep its reputation for being one of the most successful popular music festivals of all time. Here are the highlights of each day.

Day 1: Vince Staples

Vince Staples is slowly and steadily becoming one of the most recognizable alternative hip hop artists. Along with his collaborations with Gorillaz, GTA and Flume, the artist’s stage presence and energy should be witnessed. He maintained his high energy throughout the whole set. Kendrick Lamar made a surprise appearance during Vince’s performance of ‘Yeah Right’.

This was not the first guest appearance of Kendrick during the night. He also joined SZA for their collaboration on ‘Doves in the Wind’ and ‘All the Stars’.

Day 1: Jamiroquai

The British funk-pop band Jamiroquai gave another crowd-pleasing performance on Coachella this Saturday. Regardless of the time clash with headliner The Weeknd, Mr. Jay and his trademark hat welcomed dance lovers. Surprise guest Snoop Dogg joined the band during ‘Dr. Buzz’ and also performed his own hits like ‘Drop It Like It’s Hot’.

Day 1: The Weeknd

Right after releasing his highly anticipated album My Dear Melancholy, The Weeknd headlined the first day of the festival. His set was a mixture of his mellow and pop side, with hits including ‘Can’t Feel My Face’, ‘Earned It’ and ‘Call Out My Name’.

Other noteworthy performers on the first day of the festival were St. Vincent, Greta Van FleetThe War on Drugs, and Bleachers.

Day 2: Børns

Garreth Borns, stage name Børns, is a rising indie pop singer. His debut album included hits like ‘10,000 Emerald Polls’ and ‘Electric Love’. He has recently released his second solo album Blue Madonna with a Lana Del Rey feature song and gave a sweet performance on Saturday evening, proving he is a force that needs to be reckoned with.

Day 2: David Byrne

The former Talking Heads singer and multi-instrumentalist gave his first Coachella performance this Saturday. The setlist was a combination of Talking Heads classics like ‘Once in a Lifetime’ and ‘Burning Down the House’ to songs from his new record American Utopia. The charming performance included twelve percussionists, giving a theatrical feel to the festival.

Day 2: Beyoncé

It is not an exaggeration to say the most anticipated performance of this year’s edition was Beyoncé. She had to cancel last year due to her pregnancy. She came back this year with one of the most powerful and well-prepared performances of her career. Throughout her two-hour set, Beyoncé performed 26 songs, reunited with Destiny’s Child, collaborated with husband Jay-Z and danced with her musician sister, Solange. The performance included themes like black rights and feminism. She also made history to become the first female Afro-American headliner of the festival.

Other noteworthy performers on the second day of the festival were HAIM, Fleet Foxes, Nile Rodgers and First Aid Kit.

Day 3: Eminem

One of the most well-known rap artists of all time, Eminem was the last headliner of the three-day event. Surprisingly, he only performed two songs from his new album Relapse. Dr. Dre, Skylar Grey and 50 Cent made guest appearances during the Rap God’s show.

Other noteworthy performers on the second day of the festival were King Krule, Kamasi Washington, Cardi B, and Portugal the Man.

Livestream

Apart from the on-site participation, Coachella allowed users all around the world to enjoy most of the performances via livestreams on Youtube. Three out of six stages were streamed via three different links. Even though there were artists like A Perfect Circle and Highly Suspect performing this year, the festival had a slightly weaker lineup for the rock genre. Overall, Coachella maintains its popular culture domination with the events of this year. The festival will welcome the exact same performers next weekend in Indio, California.
